Description:
Participants are invited to attend this information session presented by the Workers’ Health and Safety Legal Clinic. This is an in-person session taking place at the YWCA JUMP Scarborough office at 3090 Kingston Rd., Suite 205 (MAP).
During this workshop, participants will learn:
- About Legal Aid Ontario and how to access free legal services;
- About employment agreements (written vs. verbal employment contracts) and how to identify potential job scams;
- Basic employment standards under the Employment Standards Act (ESA), such as minimum wage, paid public holidays, personal emergency leave, hours of work, rest periods, overtime pay, meal breaks, scheduling rules, termination notice/pay, vacation time/pay, pregnancy and parental leave, etc.;
- How to raise their rights under the ESA; and,
- How to access clear and reliable legal information and resources on a variety of other legal topics.
