Description:
YWCA Toronto's JUMP Scarborough program invites participants to join this in-person workshop at a community kitchen to explore the connections between food justice and racial equity. This workshop will take place at 2330 Midland Ave (MAP)
Black communities in Canada are almost twice as likely to experience food insecurity as white communities. This interactive workshop will explore how systemic racism, anti-Black racism and settler colonialism shape experiences within the food system through policies, institutions, interpersonal relationships and everyday interactions with food.
Through anti-racist learning activities and a lens of intersectionality, participants will be encouraged to critically examine their own relationships with food and explore the broader factors that contribute to food insecurity and inequity.
Participants will also take part in a hands-on cooking activity, preparing homestyle Jamaican comfort food from scratch while exploring the connections between food, culture, community and racial equity.
Spaces are limited and will be given on a first-come, first-served basis.
Presto tickets will be provided.
This workshop is offered in partnership with FoodShare.
