YWCA Toronto’s Board of Directors is pleased to announce that, following a comprehensive and thoughtful national search supported by external expertise and guided by the Board, Deepa Mattoo has been appointed to serve as the next Chief Executive Officer of YWCA Toronto, effective April 15, 2026. The Board extends its gratitude to the search committee and all who participated in this rigorous process, which reaffirmed our commitment to strong, values-aligned leadership for the next chapter of our organization’s work.

This leadership transition occurs at a crucial moment for YWCA Toronto. As we advance our strategic vision, the Board sought a leader who exemplifies our mission, brings deep sector expertise, and holds a leadership style grounded in collaboration, equity, and community partnership. Deepa is an award-winning lawyer and nationally recognized feminist, whose decades-long work in gender equity, justice and advocacy makes her exceptionally well-positioned to steward YWCA Toronto into the future.

Deepa currently serves as the Executive Director of the Barbra Schlifer Commemorative Clinic, where she has led multiple departments since 2019. She has appeared before the Supreme Court of Canada, Parliamentary committees, and United Nations civil society forums, advocating on a broad spectrum of social justice and human rights matters. In 2023, Deepa was appointed to the Domestic Violence Death Review Committee (DVDRC), a role that reflects her national leadership and deep commitment to addressing intimate partner and gender-based violence.

Deepa’s professional recognition includes receiving the Law Society Medal and being honoured with YWCA Toronto’s own Women of Distinction Award in 2022 for her advocacy and efforts to advance access to justice. Her leadership journey is deeply rooted in the values and mission of our Association, and we are proud to welcome back a past Women of Distinction honouree to lead the organization at this important time.
