We are excited to celebrate two of our program participants from the YWCA Toronto Girls’ Centre, Harni and Ragavy, who were selected for the 2025 summer internships with TD Securities through the TD Talent Lab program. Designed to introduce Grade 11 and 12 students from historically underrepresented communities to careers in finance, the TD Talent Lab program provides mentorship, hands-on learning, and valuable industry exposure.
Adding to this exciting achievement, Ragavy was also awarded the prestigious TD Shooting Star Scholarship, receiving $20,000 in funding to support her post-secondary education.
Harni, TD Talent Lab Participant, and Ragavy, TD Talent Lab Participant and TD Shooting Star Scholarship Recipient, shared with us what they learned throughout the program, and how it has shaped their goals for the future.
Tell us about the program and what made you pursue the internship?
The TD Talent Lab allowed me to gain real world experience in a professional environment. I was able to build a network of like-minded girls who are passionate about business, and connect with business professionals who have become supportive mentors.

The Talent Lab gave me insight into topics that are not typically taught in school, such as financial literacy, resume and cover letter building, and an introduction to capital markets. I was especially interested in gaining exposure to the corporate world, and one of my favourite parts of the program was the trading floor tour, which further sparked my interest in capital markets and the opportunities within the industry! – Ragavy
What is one skill you gained or strengthened during the program that you feel most proud of, and how do you see yourself using it moving forward?
I have been able to strengthen my communication skills by pushing myself outside of my comfort zone, meeting professionals and asking questions. Throughout my internship, I used my communication skills to ask thoughtful questions that allowed me to learn more about different industries and career paths. My strengthened communication skills will also benefit me in the future, helping me build meaningful connections and continue learning from others. - Harni
Through workshops on networking, coffee chat etiquette, and interviewing, I became much more confident when speaking with professionals and building connections, which was incredibly helpful during my internship and continues to be an important skill as I network, explore new opportunities, and work toward my career goals. – Ragavy
How has participating in this program influenced the kind of future you want for yourself?
I have been able to learn about different careers within business and finance, which has allowed me to explore a wider range of future career paths. I have gained insight into roles in Global Markets and Private Equity, which has helped me better understand my interests and will guide me as I explore future career opportunities. - Harni
This program solidified my interest in pursuing a career in sales and trading. It gave me valuable insight into the industry while showing me the importance of continuous learning, networking, and stepping outside of my comfort zone. The experience motivated me to keep exploring opportunities in capital markets and to actively seek experiences that support my professional growth. – Ragavy
What advice would you give to next interns or scholarship applicants?
Put yourself out there and take full advantage of every opportunity that the program offers. Ask questions, get involved, and connect with people whenever possible. Do not hesitate to speak up – it is how you learn the most and build meaningful connections. Being proactive can open doors to opportunities you never expected. – Ragavy

Why are programs like the TD Talent Lab important?
These programs are important because they provide students with opportunities to gain experience in professional environments and build skills. I, now, feel more confident to pursue a career in business and finance. – Harni
They create access to opportunities that may not otherwise be available to most students. They provide mentorship, professional development, financial literacy, and exposure to different career paths. Before participating in this program, I had never toured a trading floor or learned directly from professionals in the industry. Experiences like these can broaden a students' perspectives, build confidence, and help them discover career paths they may not have previously considered. – Ragavy
How has the funding from the TD Shooting Star Scholarship supported your goals?
I used the funding to support my post-secondary education. It has helped ease some of the financial pressures that come with pursuing higher education and has allowed me to focus more on my academics, professional development, and community involvement. I am incredibly grateful for the support and view it as an investment in my future. – Ragavy
