YWCA Toronto Statement on the Recent Act of Anti-Muslim Violence

June 08, 2021

We are horrified to learn of the recent Islamophobic attack in London, Ontario that resulted in the death of four family members and serious injuries to a nine-year-old boy. We send our heartfelt condolences to the extended family of the victims, as well to Muslim community members in London and beyond.

This heinous act of violence did not occur in isolation – it is part of a longstanding legacy of white supremacy and anti-Muslim sentiment that continues to pervade Canadian society.

We stand in solidarity with Muslim communities in denouncing these acts of violence, in grieving the loss of the victims, and in calling on the government to condemn Islamophobia in all of its forms.

We encourage the broader YWCA Toronto community to donate to this relief fund if they wish to do so and to participate in local vigils and similar events where possible.
