YWCA Arise Shelter


YWCA Arise is a free shelter for women, gender diverse people and their children fleeing abuse. We offer a safe, caring home and the counselling and support women and gender diverse people need to heal and plan for the future.

  • Furnished room for every woman, gender diverse individual and their children

  • Shared bathrooms

  • Nutritious meals and snacks (we support families with their health and cultural dietary needs)

  • Welcome kit upon arrival (toiletries and personal care items)

  • Secure building with closed circuit cameras

  • YWCA staff available at all times

  • Assistance applying for a personal needs allowance

  • Access to clothing bank

  • Community garden

  • Warm staff that specialize in the following areas: children and youth, mental health, employment, violence against women, addictions, immigration, trauma, and housing

  • One-on-one counselling for women, gender diverse individuals and their children

  • Help to establish a safety plan

  • Help to find affordable housing

  • Referrals to lawyers, doctors, and community resources

  • Accompaniment to appointments if requested

  • Family-based activities and celebrations

  • Ongoing support after women and gender diverse individuals leave the shelter

  • Support in many languages through staff and cultural interpreters

Mandarin, Polish, Hindu, Urdu, Croatian, Slavian, Punjabi, and English.
