girls’ centre

YWCA Toronto Girls Centre by, for and about girls, increases opportunities for girls, ages 10-18 years, to build on their existing strengths and contribute to their communities. We provide a variety of workshops, conferences, drop-in programs, and leadership training activities. Through our Girls Council we research the needs of young girls and guide program development.

We provide leadership and mentorship opportunities for girls and deliver programs in a safe space that assists girls with difficult issues. All programs are free with snacks and refreshments provided. You can participate in Girls Night and gain your volunteer hours required for school.

The four main program areas that YWCA Girls Centre addresses are:

1. Education and Skills Development;
2. Volunteerism/Leadership Training;
3. Violence Prevention; and
4. Social/Physical Well-Being.

GIRLS NIGHT

• for you, about you, check it out
• girls ages 12-18
• Thursdays 5:00-7:30 p.m.

G.L.I.M.R

• (Grow Learn Inspire Motivate Relate)
• an 8 week homework program for girls in grade 4, 5 and 6
• trained tutor provided
• Wednesdays 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.

DANCE

• come show us your skills or check out the latest dance moves!
• a 6 week program for girls ages 15-18
• 5:00 - 6:30 p.m.

FRIDAY NIGHT SEX TALK

• let's talk about sex...
• topics include healthy choices and relationships
• a 3 week program for girls ages 16-19
• Saturdays 2:00 - 4:00 p.m.

FRIDAY NIGHT GIRL TALK

• healthy sex education, relationships, self esteem and self confidence
• discussions & workships for girls ages 13-15
• Fridays 5:00 - 6:30 p.m.

DESIGN 'N' WEAR

• design your own fashion accessories
• knitwear, jewelery, beading, sewing, arts and crafts
• Mondays 4:30 - 6:00 p.m. for girls ages 13-18

GIRLS BOOK CLUB

• love to read?
• have fun exploring and discussing various books
• for girls in grades 6 - 8
• Saturdays 1:00 - 2:30 p.m.

YOUTH LOUNGE

• drop-in, relax, socialize, watch a movie, check your email, it's up to you!
• Monday to Friday 3:30 - 5:00 p.m. (closed Tuesdays)

CREATIVE MOVEMENT AND DRAMA

• Create, Imagine, Play and Dream
• a 4 week program for girls ages 10-12
• Wednesdays 6:00 - 7:00 pm
