YWCA JUMP
YWCA JUMP is a new program located in Etobicoke and Scarborough designed to help young newcomer women overcome barriers to employment and help them settle positively and prosperously in Canada.
In a safe, supportive, girls- only space YWCA JUMP program offers an environment in which girls and young women can access one-on-one and group support to enable an enjoyable settlement experience and provide education and employment direction.
what's happening this month at YWCA JUMP
This program is best suited to young women between 13 -24 who have been in Canada and are:
- Permanent Residents
- Convention Refugees
Through workshops, individual counselling and peer support YWCA JUMP helps young women:
- Plan their future
- Learn valuable job search skills and gain computer training
- Learn about services that can help them adjust to their new city like healthcare,
housing, school, recreation, employment, transportation and banking
- Get information and referrals to other programs and resources
- Interpretation and translation
- Get involved in the community
- Make friends
Extensive employment services at the centre include:
- job search cafés
- résumé workshops
- interview skills
Interpretation services available in:
- Tibetan
- Hindi
- Urdu
- Punjabi
- Mandarin

What do we offer?
- Welcome Centre – a girls- only space to get information about your community, educational resources, access to computers (internet, job search), Counselors are on call for one-on-one support
- Workshops on various topics - The essentials of life in Canada (getting a health card, using the transportation system, accessing legal, housing and educational support), Life Skills (self esteem, communication skills), Plan for your future, practice your English in conversation circles.
- One-to-one support and counseling – meet with one of our counselors to talk about your goals, challenges, ask questions, get connected with programs or services, learn more about education, employment, improve your English one-on-one
- Employment Support – attend workshops on resume writing, interview skills career assessments and exploration, meet one-to-one with an employment counselor to discuss your personal goals, use the computer café anytime for job searching, get computer related training.
- Special Events – a chance to socialize and meet other women in your community! Enjoy good company and free refreshments in a welcoming space. Upcoming events include; Speed Mentoring, Cultural Celebrations, Field trips to the zoo & science centre, Toronto and University and College tours.
